Malgajon mi sentas en koro,	Ignoro, quid id sibi velit,	Ne scias mi, kial subita	Min kaptas malgaj' en la koro,	I cannot divine what it meaneth,
sed kial tia tim'?	Tristissimus cur sim,	malgaj' en la koro naskiĝis;	pro kio tia trist'?	This haunting nameless pain:
Legendo el pratempa foro	Antiqui aevi fabellam	el tempo jam enterigita	Fabel' el antikva foro	A tale of the bygone ages
Vagadas tra mia anim'.	Cur saepe volverim.	legendo al mi reviviĝis.	ne lasas de mi kun persist'.	Keeps brooding through my brain:

Jam fluas la Rejn' en malhelo,	Vesperascit et frigescit,	Jam malvarmetiĝas l' aero,	Aere fridetas, trankvilas,	The faint air cools in the gloaming,
kaj malvarmetas l' aer'.	Et Rhenus leniter it,	la Rejno mallaŭte babilas,	malhelas jam la Rejn'.	And peaceful flows the Rhine,
Sed brilas la mont' en orbelo	Cacumen montis lucescit,	per oro de l'sun' en vespero	La monto surpinte brilas	The thirsty summits are drinking
pro suna lum' de l' vesper'.	Dum Phoebus occidit.	la supro de l' monto rebrilas.	vespere en rava scen'.	The sunset's flooding wine;

Jen supre kabino provokas	Sedet in summo montis	Plej belan knabinon mi vidas:	Tre ĉarma feino sidas,	The loveliest maiden is sitting
per ora juvelar',	Virgo pulcherrima,	en ora ornamo brilante,	jen supre por ador';	High-throned in yon blue air,
kaj ŝia beleco allogas	Auro nitet gemma frontis,	sur supro de l' monto ŝi sidas,	la ora ornamo ridas;	Her golden jewels are shining,
kaj ŝia ora harar'.	Se pectit auricoma.	la harojn mistere kombante.	ŝi kombas harojn el or'.	She combs her golden hair;

Ŝi kombas ĝin, kantas sorĉige,	Aureolo pectine pectit,	La oran kombilon ŝi movas	Ŝi kombas per ora kombilo	She combs with comb that is golden,
sirene kantas ŝi	Carmen canens procul,	kaj kantas tra l' pura aero,	kaj kantas kun pasi';	And sings a weird refrain
per neimagebla, mirige	Mirandum id habet modum	kaj forto mirinda sin trovas	mirigas min la elbrilo	That steeps in a deadly enchantment

Ŝipiston en eta boato	In cymba navitam mille	Ŝipet' iras sur la rivero,	Ŝipisto ŝipeton gvidas,	The doomed in his drifting shallop,
Turmentas koremoci'.	Angores feri tenent,	ŝipisto ektremis de l' kanto,	lin kaptas ve' de ekzalt'.	Is tranced with the sad sweet tone,
Ne ĝenas lin rifo-kaskado,	Non videt scopulos ille,	kaj blinda por ĉiu danĝero	Li ja la rifojn ne vidas',	He sees not the yawing breakers,
rigardas nur supren al ŝi!	Ocli non si sursum vident.	rigardas li al la kantanto.	li vidas nur supren sen halt'.	He sees but the maid alone:

Ĝis tiras kun si al Rejn-fundo	Opinor undas devorare	Ha, baldaŭ ŝipisto la bela	Mi kredas, ke ondoj tiras	The pitiless billwos engulf him!-
la ondoj lin kun boat'.	Nautam cum navicula,	perdiĝis sub l' akvoturnado;	la ŝipon funden de l' Rejn';	So perish sailor and bark;
Nun kuŝas li en la profundo	Effecit solo canendo	ĝin Lorelej' faris kruela,	kaj tio de l' kant' eliras	And this, with her baleful singing,
pro Loreleja kantad'.	Lurleia id dea.	per sia mirinda kantado.	de Lorelaj-siren'.	Is the Lorelei's gruesome work.
