se dormo ne min prenas,		Ere Slumber's chain has bound me,
pri la pasintaj tagoj		Fond Memory brings the light
rememoro venas:		Of other days around me;
pri ridoj, larmoj ama vort',		The smiles, the tears, of boyhood's years,
al juna knab' dirita,		The words of love then spoken;
pri belokul', senluma nun,		The eyes that shone, now dimm'd and gone,
Tiel en paca nokt'		The cheerful hearts now broken!
pri koro, jam rompita.,		Thus, in the stilly night,
se dormo ne min prenas,		Ere Slumber's chain hath bound me,
pri la pasintaj tagoj		Sad Memory brings the light
rememoro venas.		Of other days around me.

kiel folioj en		I've seen around me fall
malvarma vent' falintaj.		Like leaves in wintry weather;
ĝi igas senti, kvazaŭ mi		I feel like one, who treads alone
ĉe fest' dezerta sidas:		Some banquet-hall deserted,
la gastoj for, —		Whose lights are fled,
mortinta lum',-		Whose garlands dead,
velkinta flor' dancglitas.		And all but he departed!
