estis en printempa hor'		When the sweet springtime did fall,
la filin' de muelisto		Was the miller's lovely daughter,
bela, kiel flor'.		Fairest of them all.
Amindumis ŝin soldato;		For his bride, a soldier sought her
dolĉajn vortojn diris li -		And a winning tongue had he,
Ĉe la bordo de Alano		False was he.

		So misled was she.

ne plu venos ŝi.		In a grave lay she.
