I cannot divine what it meaneth,	Ne scias mi, kio okazis	Ne scias mi, kial subita	I do not know what it signifies.
This haunting nameless pain:	al mia tristema kor':	malgaj' en la koro naskiĝis;	That I am so sorrowful?
A tale of the bygone ages	Antikva legendo min kaptis,	el tempo jam enterigita	A fable of old Times so terrifies,
Keeps brooding through my brain:	ne cedas el mia memor'.	legendo al mi reviviĝis.	Leaves my heart so thoughtful.

The faint air cools in the gloaming,	La Rejno fluadas trankvile	Jam malvarmetiĝas l' aero,	The air is cool and it darkens,
And peaceful flows the Rhine,	murmuras kiel mister',	la Rejno mallaŭte babilas,	And calmly flows the Rhine;
The thirsty summits are drinking	la supron ŝtonegan orumas	per oro de l'sun' en vespero	The summit of the mountain hearkens

High-throned in yon blue air,	mirinda sur la montet'	en ora ornamo brilante,	Above wonderfully there,
Her golden jewels are shining,	kaj ŝia oraĵo radias, ¹⁾	sur supro de l' monto ŝi sidas,	Her beautiful golden attire glances,

He sees not the yawing breakers,	la rifon li tute ignoras.	kaj blinda por ĉiu danĝero	He does not see the rocky slip,
He sees but the maid alone:	atentas nur ŝin kun fervor'.	rigardas li al la kantanto.	He only regards dreaded height.

The pitiless billwos engulf him!-	Mi kredas: la ondoj englutas ³⁾	Ha, baldaŭ ŝipisto la bela	I believe the turbulent waves
So perish sailor and bark;	ŝipiston, ŝipeton je l' fin',	perdiĝis sub l' akvoturnado;	Swallow the last shipper and boat;
And this, with her baleful singing,	kaj kulpa pri tio nur estas	ĝin Lorelej' faris kruela,	She with her singing craves

	1) En la sube menciita kajero, el kiu mi, Manfred Retzlaff, kopiis tiun ĉi esperantigon, la linio tekstas: "kaj sia oraĵo radias", kun "sia" anstataŭ "ŝia"'. Tio ŝajne estas aŭ pres-eraro aŭ gramatika eraro de la tradukinto.
	2) En la origina versio troviĝas tie ĉi la vorto "liedon", kio estas aŭ pres-eraro aŭ neologismo inventita de la tradukinto Paul Christaller.
	3) Mi, Manfred Retzlaff, enmetis la duoblan punkton post la vorto "kredas". Ĝi mankas en la origina traduko de Paul Christaller.
