Nun ist er endlich kommen doch		Finfine tamen venis ĝi
In grünem Knospenschuh;		Kun verda burĝonar’,
“Er kam, er kam ja immer noch“		Parolas la arboj inter si:
Die Bäume nicken sich’s zu.		“Ĝi venis ja en ĉiu jar’.“¹⁾

Sie konnten ihn all erwarten kaum,		Nun forte ili burĝonas jen,
Nun treiben sie Schuß auf Schuß;		Jam longe atendis ĝin;
Im Garten der alte Apfelbaum,		La olda pomarbo en la ĝarden’
Er sträubt sich, aber er muß.		Obstinas, sed devas je l’ fin’.

Wohl zögert auch das alte Herz		Hezitas la maljuna kor’,
Und atmet noch nicht frei,		Ankoraŭ timas kaj
Es bangt und sorgt. „Es ist erst März,		Ja scias: „Mart’ ne estas for,
Und März ist noch nicht Mai.“		Kaj Mart’ ne estas Maj’.“

O schüttle ab den schweren Traum		Ho skuu la pezan sonĝon for,
Und die lange Winterruh:		Samkiel tiu pomarbo ĉi:
Es wagt der alte Apfelbaum,		Vekiĝu fine, mia kor’,
Herze, wag’s auch du.		Kuraĝu ankaŭ vi.
