N. N. 32,
A spotless roze is growing

N. N. 32,
En rose så jeg skyde

translated by N. N. 33   translated by Thomas Laub

1. A Spotless Rose is growing,   En rose så jeg skyde
Sprung from a tender root,   op af den frosne jord,
Of ancient seers' foreshowing,   alt som os fordum spåde
Of Jesse promised fruit;   profetens trøsteord.
Its fairest bud unfolds to light   Den rose spired frem
Amid the cold, cold winter,   midt i den kolde vinter
And in the dark midnight.   om nat ved Bethlehem.

2. The Rose which I am singing,   For rosen nu jeg kvæder
Whereof Isaiah said,   omkap med Himlens hær:
Is from its sweet root springing   en jomfru var hans moder,
In Mary, purest Maid;   Maria ren og skær.
Through God's great love and might   I ham brød lyset frem
The Blessed Babe she bare us   midt i den mørke vinter
In a cold, cold winter's night.   om nat ved Bethlehem.

  har dejlig duft og skær,
    den lyse for os ville
    og sprede mørket her.
    I sandhed mand og Gud,
    af syndens nød og pine
    han nådig hjalp os ud.
