N. N. 32,
En rose så jeg skyde

N. N. 32,
A spotless roze is growing

translated by Thomas Laub   translated by N. N. 33

En rose så jeg skyde   1. A Spotless Rose is growing,
op af den frosne jord,   Sprung from a tender root,
alt som os fordum spåde   Of ancient seers' foreshowing,
profetens trøsteord.   Of Jesse promised fruit;
Den rose spired frem   Its fairest bud unfolds to light
midt i den kolde vinter   Amid the cold, cold winter,
om nat ved Bethlehem.   And in the dark midnight.

For rosen nu jeg kvæder   2. The Rose which I am singing,
omkap med Himlens hær:   Whereof Isaiah said,
en jomfru var hans moder,   Is from its sweet root springing
Maria ren og skær.   In Mary, purest Maid;
I ham brød lyset frem   Through God's great love and might
midt i den mørke vinter   The Blessed Babe she bare us
om nat ved Bethlehem.   In a cold, cold winter's night.

Den rose fin og lille
har dejlig duft og skær,   Translation of the German poem "Es ist
ein Ros entsprungen" by N. N. 32 into

den lyse for os ville
og sprede mørket her.
I sandhed mand og Gud,
af syndens nød og pine
han nådig hjalp os ud.
