This haunting nameless pain:	malgaj' en la koro naskiĝis;	Malgaja en la kor’.	Tristissimus cur sim,	al mia tristema kor':	That I am so sorrowful?
A tale of the bygone ages	el tempo jam enterigita	Antikva fabelo restas	Antiqui aevi fabellam	Antikva legendo min kaptis,	A fable of old Times so terrifies,

He sees not the yawing breakers,	kaj blinda por ĉiu danĝero	Rifaron li ne priatentas,	Non videt scopulos ille,	la rifon li tute ignoras.	He does not see the rocky slip,
He sees but the maid alone:	rigardas li al la kantanto.	Al monto rigardas li nur.	Ocli non si sursum vident.	atentas nur ŝin kun fervor'.	He only regards dreaded height.

The pitiless billwos engulf him!-	Ha, baldaŭ ŝipisto la bela	Mi kredas, ke dronos finfine	Opinor undas devorare	Mi kredas: la ondoj englutas ³⁾	I believe the turbulent waves
So perish sailor and bark;	perdiĝis sub l' akvoturnado;	Ŝipisto kun sia boat’,	Nautam cum navicula,	ŝipiston, ŝipeton je l' fin',	Swallow the last shipper and boat;
And this, with her baleful singing,	ĝin Lorelej' faris kruela,	Kaj tion kaŭzis feine	Effecit solo canendo	kaj kulpa pri tio nur estas	She with her singing craves

				1) En la sube menciita kajero, el kiu mi, Manfred Retzlaff, kopiis tiun ĉi esperantigon, la linio tekstas: "kaj sia oraĵo radias", kun "sia" anstataŭ "ŝia"'. Tio ŝajne estas aŭ pres-eraro aŭ gramatika eraro de la tradukinto.
				2) En la origina versio troviĝas tie ĉi la vorto "liedon", kio estas aŭ pres-eraro aŭ neologismo inventita de la tradukinto Paul Christaller.
				3) Mi, Manfred Retzlaff, enmetis la duoblan punkton post la vorto "kredas". Ĝi mankas en la origina traduko de Paul Christaller.
