Das Alter ist ein höflicher Mann:		OLD age is courteous--no one more:
Einmal übers andre klopft er an,		For time after time he knocks at the door,
aber nun sagt niemand: Herein!		But nobody says, "Walk in, sir, pray!"
Und vor der Türe will er nicht sein.		Yet turns he not from the door away,
Da klinkt er auf, tritt ein so schnell,		But lifts the latch, and enters with speed.
und nun heißt's, er sei ein grober Gesell.		And then they cry "A cool one, indeed!"
