translated by Félix Rose       translated by Walter A. Aue   translated by William Auld

Tigre, tigre flamboyant d'ardeur   Tyger Tyger, burning bright,   Argiope information:   Tigro, tigro, brile brula
Dans les forêts de la nuit;   In the forests of the night;   The view of this version is restricted.   En arbaro nokt-obskura,
Quel pouvoir immortel, inouï,   What immortal hand or eye,   Presumably there are copyright issues.   Forĝis kia man' eterna
Forma ta parfaite terreur?   Could frame thy fearful symmetry?       Vin je simetri' konsterna?

Dans quels cieux, quelles profondeurs   In what distant deeps or skies   Translation of the English poem "The Tyger
" by William Blake (*1757-11-28 -
†1827-08-12) into German by Walter

  En kia fundo aŭ ĉielo
Brûlait le feu de ton regard?   Burnt the fire of thine eyes?       Ardis via okulhelo?
Quel vol osa donc vouloir?   On what wings dare he aspire?       Kia lin flugil' subtenis?
Et quelle main saisit ce feu?   What the hand, dare sieze the fire?       Kia man' la fajron prenis?

Et quelle puissance et quel art   And what shoulder and what art,       Per kiaj ŝultro kaj kompreno.
Nouèrent les ligaments de ton coeur?   Could twist the sinews of thy heart?       Por vi tordiĝis kortendeno?
Dès ses premiers battements,   And when thy heart began to beat,       Kaj kiam pulsis batoj koraj,
Quels pieds et griffes effrayant?   What dread hand? and what dread feet?       Kiaj pied' kaj mano gloraj?

Quelle chaîne? Quel marteau?   What the hammer? What the chain,       Kia martelo? Ĉeno kia?
Dans quelle fournaise était ton cerveau?   In what furnace was thy brain?       Kia forn' por cerbo via?
Quelle enclume? Quel poing effarant   What the anvil? What dread grasp,       Riskis kia fort' kolosa
Put gripper tes mortelles transes?   Dare its deadly terrors clasp!       Spiti al terur' ambosa?

Quand les astres jetant leurs lances   When the stars threw down their spears       Kiam steloj sin malarmis
Arrosèrent le ciel de pleurs,   And water'd heaven with their tears:       Kaj sur la ĉielon larmis,
Sourit-Il en te contemplant,   Did he smile his work to see?       Ĉu la verko al li karis?
Lui qui fit l'agneau de douceur?   Did he who made the Lamb make thee?       Ĉu vin Ŝafid-farinto faris?

Tigre, tigre flamboyant d'ardeur   Tyger Tyger, burning bright,       Tigro, tigro, brile brula
Dans les forêts de la nuit;   In the forests of the night;       En arbaro nokt-obskura,
Quel pouvoir immortel, inouï,   What immortal hand or eye,       Forĝus kia man' eterna
Osa former ta parfaite terreur?   Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?       Vin je simetri' konsterna?
