An ancient legend of the Rhine

I cannot divine what it meaneth,	Malgajon mi sentas en koro,	Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten,	Ne scias mi, kial subita
This haunting nameless pain:	sed kial tia tim'?	daß ich so traurig bin;	malgaj' en la koro naskiĝis;
A tale of the bygone ages	Legendo el pratempa foro	ein Märchen aus alten Zeiten,	el tempo jam enterigita
Keeps brooding through my brain:	Vagadas tra mia anim'.	das kommt mir nicht aus dem Sinn.	legendo al mi reviviĝis.

The faint air cools in the gloaming,	Jam fluas la Rejn' en malhelo,	Die Luft ist kühl und es dunkelt,	Jam malvarmetiĝas l' aero,

High-throned in yon blue air,	per ora juvelar',	dort oben wunderbar,	en ora ornamo brilante,
Her golden jewels are shining,	kaj ŝia beleco allogas	ihr goldnes Geschmeide blitzet,	sur supro de l' monto ŝi sidas,
She combs her golden hair;	kaj ŝia ora harar'.	sie kämmt ihr goldenes Haar.	la harojn mistere kombante.

The pitiless billwos engulf him!-	Ĝis tiras kun si al Rejn-fundo	Ich glaube, die Wellen verschlingen	Ha, baldaŭ ŝipisto la bela
