I cannot divine what it meaneth,	Ignoro, quid id sibi velit,	Ne scias mi, kial subita	Malgajon mi sentas en koro,	Ne scias mi, kio okazis	I do not know what it signifies.
This haunting nameless pain:	Tristissimus cur sim,	malgaj' en la koro naskiĝis;	sed kial tia tim'?	al mia tristema kor':	That I am so sorrowful?
A tale of the bygone ages	Antiqui aevi fabellam	el tempo jam enterigita	Legendo el pratempa foro	Antikva legendo min kaptis,	A fable of old Times so terrifies,
Keeps brooding through my brain:	Cur saepe volverim.	legendo al mi reviviĝis.	Vagadas tra mia anim'.	ne cedas el mia memor'.	Leaves my heart so thoughtful.

Is tranced with the sad sweet tone,	Angores feri tenent,	ŝipisto ektremis de l' kanto,	Turmentas koremoci'.	kaptiĝas per stranga dolor',	It effects with woe sad might;
He sees not the yawing breakers,	Non videt scopulos ille,	kaj blinda por ĉiu danĝero	Ne ĝenas lin rifo-kaskado,	la rifon li tute ignoras.	He does not see the rocky slip,
He sees but the maid alone:	Ocli non si sursum vident.	rigardas li al la kantanto.	rigardas nur supren al ŝi!	atentas nur ŝin kun fervor'.	He only regards dreaded height.

The pitiless billwos engulf him!-	Opinor undas devorare	Ha, baldaŭ ŝipisto la bela	Ĝis tiras kun si al Rejn-fundo	Mi kredas: la ondoj englutas ³⁾	I believe the turbulent waves
So perish sailor and bark;	Nautam cum navicula,	perdiĝis sub l' akvoturnado;	la ondoj lin kun boat'.	ŝipiston, ŝipeton je l' fin',	Swallow the last shipper and boat;
And this, with her baleful singing,	Effecit solo canendo	ĝin Lorelej' faris kruela,	Nun kuŝas li en la profundo	kaj kulpa pri tio nur estas	She with her singing craves
Is the Lorelei's gruesome work.	Lurleia id dea.	per sia mirinda kantado.	pro Loreleja kantad'.	kantado de la virin'.	All to visit her magic moat.

				1) En la sube menciita kajero, el kiu mi, Manfred Retzlaff, kopiis tiun ĉi esperantigon, la linio tekstas: "kaj sia oraĵo radias", kun "sia" anstataŭ "ŝia"'. Tio ŝajne estas aŭ pres-eraro aŭ gramatika eraro de la tradukinto.
				2) En la origina versio troviĝas tie ĉi la vorto "liedon", kio estas aŭ pres-eraro aŭ neologismo inventita de la tradukinto Paul Christaller.
				3) Mi, Manfred Retzlaff, enmetis la duoblan punkton post la vorto "kredas". Ĝi mankas en la origina traduko de Paul Christaller.
