This haunting nameless pain:	malgaj' en la koro naskiĝis;	Malgaja en la kor’.
A tale of the bygone ages	el tempo jam enterigita	Antikva fabelo restas
Keeps brooding through my brain:	legendo al mi reviviĝis.	Por ĉiam en mia memor’.

The faint air cools in the gloaming,	Jam malvarmetiĝas l' aero,	Vespero jam ekmalheliĝas,
And peaceful flows the Rhine,	la Rejno mallaŭte babilas,	Fluadas la Rejn’ en trankvil’,
The thirsty summits are drinking	per oro de l'sun' en vespero	La supro de l’ monto lumiĝas

Her golden jewels are shining,	sur supro de l' monto ŝi sidas,	La belan vizaĝon kronas
She combs her golden hair;	la harojn mistere kombante.	Mirinde la ora harar’.

She combs with comb that is golden,	La oran kombilon ŝi movas	Ŝi uzas kombilon el oro
And sings a weird refrain	kaj kantas tra l' pura aero,	Kaj dume kantas ŝi.
That steeps in a deadly enchantment	kaj forto mirinda sin trovas	Mirige tuŝas al koro
The listener's ravished brain:	en tiu ĉi kant' de l'vespero.	Sorĉiga la melodi’.

The doomed in his drifting shallop,	Ŝipet' iras sur la rivero,	Kaj sopiregon eksentas
Is tranced with the sad sweet tone,	ŝipisto ektremis de l' kanto,	Ŝipisto dum sia vetur’;
He sees not the yawing breakers,	kaj blinda por ĉiu danĝero	Rifaron li ne priatentas,
He sees but the maid alone:	rigardas li al la kantanto.	Al monto rigardas li nur.

The pitiless billwos engulf him!-	Ha, baldaŭ ŝipisto la bela	Mi kredas, ke dronos finfine
So perish sailor and bark;	perdiĝis sub l' akvoturnado;	Ŝipisto kun sia boat’,
And this, with her baleful singing,	ĝin Lorelej' faris kruela,	Kaj tion kaŭzis feine
