Malgaja en la kor’.   This haunting nameless pain:   al mia tristema kor':   malgaj' en la koro naskiĝis;   pro kio tia trist'?   Tristissimus cur sim,   daß ich so traurig bin;   That I am so sorrowful?

Por ĉiam en mia memor’.   Keeps brooding through my brain:   ne cedas el mia memor'.   legendo al mi reviviĝis.   ne lasas de mi kun persist'.   Cur saepe volverim.   das kommt mir nicht aus dem Sinn.   Leaves my heart so thoughtful.
 
Vespero jam ekmalheliĝas,   The faint air cools in the gloaming,   La Rejno fluadas trankvile   Jam malvarmetiĝas l' aero,   Aere fridetas, trankvilas,   Vesperascit et frigescit,   Die Luft ist kühl und es dunkelt,   The air is cool and it darkens,
Fluadas la Rejn’ en trankvil’,   And peaceful flows the Rhine,   murmuras kiel mister',   la Rejno mallaŭte babilas,   malhelas jam la Rejn'.   Et Rhenus leniter it,   und ruhig fließt der Rhein;   And calmly flows the Rhine;

Kun ora juvelar’,   High-throned in yon blue air,   mirinda sur la montet'   en ora ornamo brilante,   jen supre por ador';   Virgo pulcherrima,   dort oben wunderbar,   Above wonderfully there,

Rifaron li ne priatentas,   He sees not the yawing breakers,   la rifon li tute ignoras.   kaj blinda por ĉiu danĝero   Li ja la rifojn ne vidas',   Non videt scopulos ille,   er schaut nicht die Felsenriffe,   He does not see the rocky slip,
Al monto rigardas li nur.   He sees but the maid alone:   atentas nur ŝin kun fervor'.   rigardas li al la kantanto.   li vidas nur supren sen halt'.   Ocli non si sursum vident.   er schaut nur hinauf in die Höh.   He only regards dreaded height.

        1) En la sube menciita kajero, el kiu mi,
Manfred Retzlaff, kopiis tiun ĉi
esperantigon, la linio tekstas: "kaj sia
oraĵo radias", kun "sia" anstataŭ "ŝia"'.
Tio ŝajne estas aŭ pres-eraro aŭ
gramatika eraro de la tradukinto. 		                   
        2) En la origina versio troviĝas tie ĉi la
vorto "liedon", kio estas aŭ pres-eraro
aŭ neologismo inventita de la tradukinto
Paul Christaller. 		                   
        3) Mi, Manfred Retzlaff, enmetis la duoblan
punkton post la vorto "kredas". Ĝi mankas
en la origina traduko de Paul Christaller.
