When the sweet springtime did fall,		estis en printempa hor'
Was the miller's lovely daughter,		la filin' de muelisto
Fairest of them all.		bela, kiel flor'.
For his bride, a soldier sought her		Amindumis ŝin soldato;
And a winning tongue had he,		dolĉajn vortojn diris li -
False was he.		Ĉe la bordo de Alano
On the banks of the Allan Water		gaja estis ŝi.
So misled was she.

When the autumn spread its store		post forpaso de l'somer',
There I saw the miller's daughter		la filin' de muelisto
But she smiled no more,		staris sen esoer'.
For the summer, grief had brought her		Ĉar forestis la soldato,
And the soldier, false was he,		malfidela estis li -
On the banks of the Allan Water,		ĉe la bordo de Alano
Left alone was she.		ĉiam ploris ŝi.
