Supre staras la kapelo		Droben stehet die Kapelle,
Sur la pinto de la mont’,		Schauet still ins Tal hinab.
La paŝtist’ en suna helo		Drunten singt bei Wies' und Quelle
Ĝoje kantas ĉe la font’.		Froh und hell der Hirtenknab'.

Triste la sonorileto		Traurig tönt des Glocklein nider,
De funebro sonas de		Schauerlich der Leichenchor;
La altaĵ’ tra la kvieto,		Stille sind die frohen Lieder,
La paŝtist’ jam kantas ne.		Und der Knabe lauscht empor.

Ĝin ne povas aŭdi soni		Droben bringt man sie zu Grabe,
La gajuloj post viv-fin’.		Die sich freuten in dem Tal:
Ho, paŝtisto, iam oni		Hirtenknabe, Hirtenknabe!
Portos supren ankaŭ vin.		Dir auch singt man dort einmal.
