Ne scias mi, kial mi estas   Ignoro, quid id sibi velit,   I do not know what it signifies.
Malgaja en la kor’.   Tristissimus cur sim,   That I am so sorrowful?
Antikva fabelo restas   Antiqui aevi fabellam   A fable of old Times so terrifies,
Por ĉiam en mia memor’.   Cur saepe volverim.   Leaves my heart so thoughtful.
 
Vespero jam ekmalheliĝas,   Vesperascit et frigescit,   The air is cool and it darkens,
Fluadas la Rejn’ en trankvil’,   Et Rhenus leniter it,   And calmly flows the Rhine;
La supro de l’ monto lumiĝas   Cacumen montis lucescit,   The summit of the mountain hearkens
En vespersuna bril’.   Dum Phoebus occidit.   In evening sunshine line.
 
Belega knabino jen tronas   Sedet in summo montis   The most beautiful Maiden entrances
Kun ora juvelar’,   Virgo pulcherrima,   Above wonderfully there,
La belan vizaĝon kronas   Auro nitet gemma frontis,   Her beautiful golden attire glances,
Mirinde la ora harar’.   Se pectit auricoma.   She combs her golden hair.
 
Ŝi uzas kombilon el oro   Aureolo pectine pectit,   With golden comb so lustrous,
Kaj dume kantas ŝi.   Carmen canens procul,   And thereby a song sings,
Mirige tuŝas al koro   Mirandum id habet modum   It has a tone so wondrous,
Sorĉiga la melodi’.   Nec non virilem simul.   That powerful melody rings.
 
Kaj sopiregon eksentas   In cymba navitam mille   The shipper in the little ship
Ŝipisto dum sia vetur’;   Angores feri tenent,   It effects with woe sad might;
Rifaron li ne priatentas,   Non videt scopulos ille,   He does not see the rocky slip,
Al monto rigardas li nur.   Ocli non si sursum vident.   He only regards dreaded height.
 
Mi kredas, ke dronos finfine   Opinor undas devorare   I believe the turbulent waves
Ŝipisto kun sia boat’,   Nautam cum navicula,   Swallow the last shipper and boat;
Kaj tion kaŭzis feine   Effecit solo canendo   She with her singing craves
La Loreleja kantad’.   Lurleia id dea.   All to visit her magic moat.
